About the Magazine

The Voice of Insurance is the biannual specialized magazine published by the Department of Insurance and Valuation of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. The Voice of Insurance provides a trustful and independent information platform for the stakeholders of the risk & insurance business in Sri Lanka. The magazine aims to enlighten the sphere of risk and insurance with its latest trends, information, strategies, and insights to mitigate the dynamism of the business environment.

Why the Voice of Insurance  

The Department of Insurance and Valuation of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka is the pioneer academic center in risk & insurance education in Sri Lanka and is engaged in successfully conducting various academic programs filling the knowledge and skills gaps in the insurance business. Also, it publishes an academic journal allowing researchers to publish their scientific research articles in the area of risk and insurance.

Even though there are many institutions and professionals connected to the risk & insurance business, there is no such a common platform to present their professional voices, information, experience, and expectations. The voice of insurance aims to fill the gap by connecting the stakeholders in the insurance business in Sri Lanka and expects to create a trustful information source for the industry.

What you get from the Magazine

Types of Articles Publish in the Magazine

Each and every issue of the magazine will consist with below mentioned types of articles written by well experienced senior industry professionals, academicians and researchers in the area of risk and insurance and related disciplines.     

  • Cover story: It is the story, whose subject is presented on the front page of any magazine.
  • Editorial: It is an opinion-based section, in which the editor shares their views and opinions on different issues, be it social or political, or legal. And thus tends to persuade the readers with that particular outlook.
  • Articles: Apart from the cover story and editorial, you will also find articles on different subjects for a specific audience. These are usually a non-fictional piece of information.
  • Features: Feature stories cover articles based on history, news, personality, or human interest such as places, people, events, etc. It aims to describe the experience and emotion in such a way that the readers can easily connect.
  • Columns: These are an opinion-based piece of writing, expressing the informed and powerful opinion of the writer, on a burning issue.
  • Reviews: Reviews generally state critical analysis or factual data on something, along with the opinion of the reviewer. However, the assertions must be supported by arguments, explanations, and illustrations.
  • Essays: It is an analytical or interpretative written composition on a particular topic.
  • Photo features: In a photo feature, there is a range of photographs that narrate a story.

Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines

All manuscripts should be in 12-point type, with one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages. Manuscripts should be double-spaced. The author’s name, address, telephone number, and email address should be typed at the top of the first page. Article lengths vary widely from 1,000 to 4,000 words.

There are a number of key steps you should follow to ensure a smooth and trouble-free submission. We advise you to read aims and scope and author guidelines when preparing your manuscript and submit it when it is at a publishable level.

Call for Papers

Call for Papers:   Volume I, Issue I (January – 2023)

The Voice of Insurance is a peer-reviewed, open-access magazine issued by the Department of Insurance and Valuation of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in collaboration with key stakeholders of the risk and insurance sector in Sri Lanka.

The magazine is a premier open platform for substantive dialog from different perspectives relating to risk and insurance in and out of Sri Lanka. The Editorial Board planned to launch the Voice of Insurance in 2023.

The editorial board call for manuscripts to be published in its inaugural issue (Issue I) in January 2023. Manuscripts written in English on below themes are welcome for possible publication in the Magazine.
