The Department of Insurance and Valuation was established in 2001 as the first Academic Department of the university system in Sri Lanka to offer a specialized degree in the field of Insurance with the intention of providing quality graduates to fulfill the needs of the Insurance Industry in Sri Lanka.
At present Department is committed to enhancing the education in the field of Insurance and Finance by introducing undergraduate, diploma, and higher diploma programmes with skills, capabilities, and competencies to meet real-world requirement through interaction with public and private sector organizations. It is also committed to pursuing excellence in teaching and learning in Insurance and Finance by conducting research and community service while making all efforts to contribute to the vision of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance.
Department of Insurance and Valuation has offered Bachelor of Science (Special) Degree in Insurance and Valuation from the commencement of the Department in 2001 and with effect from 07th December 2017, the title of the degree was changed as “B.Sc. Honours in Insurance & Finance”.
B.Sc. Honours in Insurance & Finance is a four-year degree programme. During the first two years of the degree programme, students are required to follow the common programme which is to provide the core management knowledge by giving them in all functional areas in Business Studies and Finance. Third-year and fourth-year courses are specialized in insurance and finance including dissertation and six months training components. This course extensively covers all aspects of insurance and business finance while developing the areas of technical skills, creative skills, communication skills, cross-functional skills, ethical and people skills, and innovative capabilities of the students.
Our final ambition is to produce self-motivated graduates to fulfill the dynamic requirements of the insurance and financial sectors locally and globally while producing opportunities for the employees at the sector for professional development through Diploma and Higher Diploma in Insurance.
