What are the undergraduate degree programs offered by the Department of Business Management (DBM)?

The DBM currently offers Bachelor of Science Honours in Business Management degree. Further, the department is eagerly looking forward to further spread its wings by introducing Bachelor of honours degree in Human Resources Management as a new degree programme in 2023.

 

What is the entry requirement for following the Bachelor of Science Honours in Business Management?

Students who have passed G.C.E Advanced level examination in commerce stream and scored above the minimum required Z-Score prescribed by UGC annually, are eligible to enter into the B.Sc. (Honours) Degree Programmes that are offered by the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance ,Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

Students who have successfully completed their first academic year are eligible to select Bachelor of Science Honours in Business Management based on the following criteria;

  • Selection Criterion 1: Student preference will be considered in the selection of a student for a specialized degree programme.
  • Selection Criterion 2: Total raw marks obtained for the specified subject bundle prescribed by the respective department (BNF 1113 -Microeconomics, INS 1113 -Business Mathematics, MGT 1113 -Management Theory & Practices) of study will be considered in the selection of a student for the Business Management degree programme.

 

What is the medium of study in the BSc. Honours in Business Management?

DBM offers all of its study programs in English Medium.

 

What is the duration and the credit value of the bachelors degree programme?

04 Academic years comprised with 129 credits

 

How do we calculate GPA?

The Grade Point Average (GPA) is the credit weight arithmetic mean of the Grade Points. It’s really a numerical representation of a student’s overall academic achievement. The Grade Point Average is the quotient obtained by dividing the Credit Weighted Grade Point Value by the total number of credit values in which a student receives a Grade. For the purpose of GPA calculation, Grade Point values are taken up to two decimal points. The maximum possible GPA is 4.00 while the minimum is 1.00. Table 4.2 illustrates the calculation of the GPA of hypothetical student at the end of the first semester of the Level 2 of the Degree programme.

 

Does BSc. Honours in Business Management include an industrial training / practical training?

Business Management undergraduates are allowed to undergo an internship program covering minimum 6 months during the 2nd Semester of their 4th level of study and carries a weightage of 4 credits.

 

Does BSc. Honours in Business Management include a compulsory research component?

Yes

The research project / dissertation carrying 6 credits will be performed in the fourth level on a topic of current interest, in field the management and Social Science selected by the student under the guidance of his/her academic supervision.

Undergraduates are given an opportunity to present their paper in the research conference of the Department – Wayamba Conference in Management (WAYACiM) and to publish their abstract in the conference proceeding carrying an ISBN.
