Knowledge Sharing Programme – 2017
The third year students of the Department of Insurance and Valuation organized a knowledge Sharing Programme for 100 students who are currently studying Commerce Stream for their Advanced Level Examination in Giriulla Educational Division. For the second consecutive time students of the Department of Insurance and Valuation were able to extent their hands to school students and programme was successfully concluded at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance on 09th of November 2017.
Insurance Day – 2017
” Insurance Day 2017 ” organized by the students and the staff of the Department of Insurance & Valuation, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and it was held on 20th of December 2017 at the main hall of Faculty of Business Studies & Finance. The day consisted with three sessions, and the first session was headed by the Mr. Sumendra Jayaram, Head of Training and Development, AIA Insurance PLC under the topic of Recent Development of Insurance Industry. The second session was headed Dr. S.K.Gamage, Head of the Department of Insurance and Valuation and he concentrated on the Role of Insurance for Economic Development. The third session was conducted by Mr. Roshan Collas, Assitant General Manager (National Sales), Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Limited, under the theme of Personality Development. The day was a knowledgeable day for all the gathered students on that day.
Field Visits
Annual Field Visits of the Department of Insurance and Valuation was organized with the objective of providing practical exposure to the students by going beyond the theory. Students and the Staff of the Department visited the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Limited and a knowledge enhancement programme on practical aspects of Marine Insurance was conducted by the Management of Marine Insurance Department of Corporation. Another visit was done to the Janashakthi Insurance PLC ( Kuliyapitiya Branch) and a programme was conducted by the Company to enhance the practical knowledge of the students on Motor Insurance Claims procedure.
INSURANCE AND FINANCE DAY 2018
With the intention of giving more extended knowledge to the students of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance, the students of the Department of Insurance and Valuation of Waymba University of Sri Lanka was able to organize their annual Insurance and Finance Day with the guidance of the academic staff on 6th of February 2019 at the Main Hall of Faculty of Business Studies and Finance. The keynote speech was delivered by Mrs. Surekha Alles, Managing Director / Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited. With the intention of giving an awareness about the career opportunities in the Insurance and Finance field for the graduates, a separate session and a speech were conducted by Mr. Rajive Dissanayake, Assistant General Manager, Hatton National Bank. For the development of the personality of the current undergraduates of the faculty another fruitful session was made by Mr. Pramoda Karunatileka, Director / Co-Founder, Talent Hub Lanka (PVT) Ltd. The day was a very successful and knowledgeable day for all students who joined with the programme.
Outbound Training Programme – Department of Insurance and Valuation
The Department of Insurance and Valuation organized an Outbound Training Programme for the 3 rd year and 4 th year students to develop their Leadership Skills and Characterized Qualities to enhance the personal confidence to face the real world challenges. The training was held at the Academy of Adventure Park Belihuloya on 12 th and 13 th of July 2019.
Annual CSR Project – Department of Insurance and Valuation.
The Department of Insurance & Valuation, Faculty of Business Studies & Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, successfully launched their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project on 2nd March 2020 at Apeksha Cancer Hospital for those little souls who undergo cancer disease. It was not just a visit, but an emotional, heart touching as well as a memorable visit, since the tears of happiness of all the involved parties. Even some valuable donations were shared among those innocent hearts full of love. The project was successfully finished by spending the whole day with those little ones with the heartiest smiles.
INSPIRE 2020 – Department of Insurance and Valuation.
The third-year undergraduates of the Department of Insurance & Valuation, Faculty of Business Studies & Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka proudly presented the INSPIRE 2020, a fully-fledged conference, to give a worthwhile awareness about the field of Insurance and Finance for the 1st year & 2nd year undergraduates of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance.
The programme was successfully held on 26th February 2020 from 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm at the Student Center of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka with the presence of the well experienced & qualified professionals in the field of Insurance and Finance.
Workshop on Core Insurance Functions
The third-year undergraduates of the Department of Insurance and Valuation and the selected second-year undergraduates of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance have participated for a workshop on Core Insurance Functions, which was organized by the Co-Operative Insurance Company Limited on 13th February 2020 at their head office by the expertise professionals in the insurance industry in Sri Lanka. This Workshop was arranged to provide practical exposure to the undergraduates by going beyond the theory.
Students of the Department of Insurance and Valuation Visit Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.
The third-year undergraduates of the Department of Insurance and Valuation and the selected second-year undergraduates of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance have visited the Insurance and Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL) on 13th February 2020 intending to understand how the IRCSL safeguards policy holders through supervisory control of Insurance Companies and to aware about how professionals with experience at IRCSL advise the government on policy and laws that would make the insurance industry remain viable, able to meet its commitments to policyholders by helping them overcome risks.
Workshop on Analysing the Financial Statements of Insurance Companies
The Department of Insurance and Valuation, Faculty of Business Studies and Finance has successfully conducted a workshop to enhance the undergraduates’ knowledge on analysing financial statemets of insurance companies. Mr. Ramal De Silva, Assistant Manager – Assurance, Ernst & Young Sri Lanka provided his honorary service to conduct this workshop on 31st January 2021 via zoom.
Workshop on Overseas Employment Opportunities for Sri Lankan Graduates
The Risk and Insurance Students’ Association (RISA) of the Department of Insurance and Valuation, organized their first workshop under the theme “Overseas Opportunities for Sri Lankan Graduates” on 08 th October 2021. Mr. Rohan Weeraratne, Manager – Employment Programmes of Australian Multicultural Community Services and Mr. Mewan Dissanayake, Finance Manager – Connect GV Australia, Director – NCN Health Australia graced this event as the resource persons.

The fourth- year and third-year undergraduates of the Department of Insurance and Valuation of the Faculty of Business Studies and Finance have participated for a field visit on 12th October 2022 to the AIA Insurance Lanka Limited and Colombo Harbour. This was arranged to provide practical exposure to the undergraduates by going beyond the theory.
Redesign Your Career
The Risk & Insurance Students’ Association of the Department of Insurance & Valuation, Faculty of Business Studies & Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka has proudly organized ‘Redesign Your Career – 2023’ in collaboration with AIA Insurance Lanka Ltd. on Wednesday, the 22nd of February 2023 at the Pandith Amaradeva Auditorium.
This event is one of the series of projects organized under the ‘Professional Skills Development’ course with the objective of enhancing the skills of students.
The event showcased the talents of the third-year undergraduates of the Department of Insurance & Valuation in all aspects of organizing and presenting a grand event.
All the decorations including the stage and podium were done by students using fresh flowers ensuring no harm to the natural environment.
The oil lamp was one of the great masterpieces that made the creativity of the students evident to the participants.
The team from AIA Insurance Lanka Ltd. enlightened the students with their knowledge and experience.

The Department of Insurance & Valuation, Faculty of Business Studies & Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka has organized mock interviews in collaboration with AIA Insurance Lanka Ltd. on Wednesday, the 22nd of February 2023 at the Faculty premises to give undergraduates the experience of a real interview.
